BCMH HIRES NEW FAMILY PRACTICE PHYSICIAN, PROMILA TIMOTHY, M.D.

Baraga County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce Promila Timothy, M,D., Family Practice Physician, will be joining Scott R. Pynnonen, M.D., Todd V. Ingram, M.D., Alin Sora, M.D., Sharon Gilliland, M.D., and Nancy Herck, P.A. at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Physician Group in May 2012. Dr. Timothy is certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Timothy began her career as a Registered Nurse, receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India in 1979, receiving her Master of Science in Nursing at Bombay University in Bombay, India in 1986, and went on to receive her Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Texas in Houston in 1999. She then obtained her Medical Degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten in 2005. She completed her family medicine residency at Providence Hospital in Southfield, MI in 2008, and her fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Brighton Hospital in Brighton, MI in 2009. Timothy is married to Kamal Timothy and they have three daughters, and two of them are currently attending medical school.

Prior to her career as a physician, Dr. Timothy also served as a nursing officer in the India Armed Forces, where she rose to the rank of captain; as a Director of Nursing at a Day Treatment Program in Washington, D.C.; and as a Nurse Practitioner Administrator at a health care center in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Timothy has had extensive experience in urgent care, hospital care and addiction medicine. She provided urgent and emergent care at an urgent care facility in Maryland, prior to practicing Family Medicine and Addiction Treatment patient management at Brighton Hospital in Brighton, Michigan, where she has practiced since 2010.

BCMH Chief of Staff, Dr. Todd Ingram, stated, “We are very fortunate to be able to round out our services at BCMH Physician Group with the addition of Dr. Timothy. Having a female family medicine physician will help us expand on our complete continuum of services to the residents of our community. Her past experience with addiction medicine is also something that will be a wonderful addition to our practice. We all look forward to working with Dr. Timothy and welcoming her to BCMH and the community.”

Tim Zwickey, BCMH CEO, stated, “We are happy to have finally reached our goal of recruiting a female family practitioner for BCMH. Dr. Timothy will be an important component of the provision of care to our community. Her extensive experience in both family medicine and addiction medicine will definitely enhance the services provided at our facility.”

Dr. Timothy stated, “Kamal and I came to L’Anse and were overwhelmed by the friendliness, welcome and warmth shown to us. The quiet and tranquility of the area won us over. During my practice in Brighton, Michigan I have taken care of patients from ‘Up North ‘, and have realized that there is a great need for healthcare here and I feel privileged that I have been given an opportunity to do my share. I hope my background in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine will effectively contribute to the wonderful job that BCMH does for the community.” She added, “I believe that I became a physician for a reason and I am committed to using my compassion, knowledge and skills for the health and wellbeing of my patients. I am looking forward to being a part of your community.” Dr. Timothy will be available for appointments at BCMH Physician Group in the month of May. The date will be announced in the BCMH section of the L’Anse Sentinel.

The New Baraga County Memorial Hospital

Baraga County Memorial Hospital and BCMH Physician Group are now in full operation at their new facility at 18341 U.S. Highway 41. The hospital phone number remains the same (906) 524-3300, with the BCMH Physician Group number (906) 524-6118.

PHYSICIAN PRACTICE NAME CHANGE

The two physician practices at BCMH - Bayview Family Practice and Baraga County Medical Practice - have consolidated into one practice at the new hospital, as of June 13, 2011. The practices are now jointly called "BCMH Physician Group". This group includes our Family Practice Physicians, Dr. Scott Pynnnonen, Dr. Todd Ingram, and Dr. Promila Timothy; our Internal Medicine/Gerontologist, Dr. Alin Sora; our Pediatrician, Dr. Sharon Gilliland ; and our Family Practice Physician Assistant, Nancy Herck, PA. The main number for the BCMH Physician Group is 906-524-6118 (the number that was previously used by Bayview Family Practice), and all of these practitioners may be contacted at this number for appointments.
